ALEXANDRA ALLEN
Artist Biography
Throughout her years as a practicing artist, Alexandra Allen has experimented with various concentrations and media as her artistic concepts have shifted over time. Using theories from disability studies, Alexandra continues to generate sculptural works that address issues of ableism in an effort to challenge the stigmatized notion of mental health disorders within normative society. In her most recent work, Alexandra’s creations are largely in abstract form, combining various materials including paper, wire, watercolor and ink to encapsulate her own disability experience as she explores the sociocultural factors that perpetuate performative ablebodiedness. She was recently featured in a faculty exhibition at Penn State University and will be exhibiting her work in the spring alongside other faculty who address mental health in their artistic practice.
